Your confirmation email will confirm your driver location and if there are any last-minute changes, we will keep you up to date via your preferred contact method.

Oversized & out-of-gauge items

Terminal Level & public label Exact area in check-in hall
North Terminal Level 2 on the main check-in hall, follow signs for Oversize Baggage At the far right end of the check‑in hall, beside Check‑In Zone B.
South Terminal On Level 2 Check-In Hall Near the centre–rear of the hall: Oversize/assistance bag drop is staffed and tucked just behind the main Zone E desks.

Tips:

- Tag first, drop second – most airlines insist you attach a standard bag-tag at the desk or self-service kiosk before walking the item to the oversize door.

- Oversized baggage can take longer to process, especially during peak times or if additional inspection is needed - come to the airport extra early.

- Book a third-party porter in advance who can collect oversize items kerb-side and escort you through the process.

Travel Tips for the Airport

Getting to Gatwick: Beat the Rush

To help you choose the best pickup time, we’ve created a quick guide to peak traffic times around Gatwick. While it’s a useful reference, our experienced drivers and planning team are always up to date with the latest traffic, roadworks, and potential delays. If you’re unsure, just give us a call before booking – we’re here to help.

Peak-hour red zones (weekdays)

If you’re travelling during peak times on these routes, it’s a good idea to allow extra time to reach the airport.

Stretch Typical crunch window*
M23 J8 (merging from M25) – J9/9A Weekday morning peak inbound: ~07:00–09:30; evening peak outbound: ~16:00–19:00
M25 J7 (M23 junction) – J8/J9 Weekends & holidays: significant delays, often exceeding 1 hour—especially 11:00–13:00 for bank holidays like Easter
A23 / local roads around Gatwick 06:30–09:00 inbound and 16:00–18:30 outbound on weekdays due to local terminal departures/arrivals.

*Times are approximate peak congestion periods.

Sweet-spot departure times

  • 10:00–13:00 and after 20:00 on weekdays are the quietest times on both the M25 western quadrant and M23, with speeds often resuming to “free-flow”.

  • 04:30–06:00 early mornings see almost empty roads—ideal for stress‑free travel.

  • Bank‑holiday weekends (Fri–Mon): INRIX & RAC advise leaving before 10:00 on Fridays, or before 11:00 or after 15:00 on Sat–Mon to avoid ~30% more delays

Weekend & holiday patterns

  • Bank‑holiday Fridays (≈ 13:00–20:00) - The worst time to drive. On the clockwise M25 from South Mimms down past J7 for Gatwick, delays of around 40 minutes are common from late afternoon as holiday drivers mix with commuter traffic

  • Sundays after ~17:00 - Generally calm, even in summer. Leisure inbound traffic into London is much lighter than weekday peaks, so the stretch towards Gatwick flows well.
